The 31st annual meeting of the Thai Society for Biotechnology and International Conference (TSB 2019) was held at Phuket the southern part of Thailand in November 10-12, 2019 . The conference was co-hosted by the Faculty of Technology, Mahasarakham University and the TSB at the Duangjitt Resort & Spa, Patong Beach, Phuket, Thailand. There were two hundred and ninety-seven (297) participant who took part, comprising of two hundred and eighteen (218) Thai nationals and seventy-nine (79) internationals from sixteen (16) different countries. The countries includes; Australia, Austria, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Mainland China, Malaysia, Nepal, Philippines, Portugal, Singapore, Taiwan, United Kingdom and USA. The conference was based on the theme "Bio innovation for sustainability", with the objective of using biotechnology to meet the current needs of the society, through biorefinery and bio-chemicals, innovative energy, functional foods, nutraceuticals and natural products, precision medicine, smart farming and sustainable environmental research.
The conference created a conductive academic environment for networking and interaction with key personalities, researchers, professionals and academicians in the field of biotechnology, and also shared knowledge and brainstormed on the current innovations in the field of applied biotechnology for sustainable economic growth and development. The participants took part in different thoughtfully planned activities of the conference which made up of; seventy (70) oral presentations, 110 poster presentations, 2 plenary lectures, 14 keynotes, 37 invited speakers and exhibitions. The conference recorded about 233 abstracts and full proceedings. The plenary lectures were given by two foreigners; Prof. Dr. Jian-Jiang Zhong, from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Mainland China, and Prof. Dr. Dietmar Haltrich, University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Austria. There were also joint sessions which consists of; Jatropha and New Energy Updates, Microbial-derived biofuels and biochemicals, TSB-SBJ-JST ERATO NOMURA PJ Joint Session and AFOB Bioeconomy Forum 2019.
The 3-day conference ended successfully with an award session, which saw different people who distinguished themselves in diverse categories been awarded.
