NSTDA Annual Conference 2017 (NAC2017)

NSTDA Annual Conference 2017 (NAC2017) organized by the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) from March 29 – April 1 2017 at Thailand Science Park, Pathum Thani.

The conference was held under the theme “NSTDA 5.0: Building Thailand Towards Sufficiency Economy” with the aims not only to present tangible research of NSTDA which can lead to the prosperity of the country but also to use science, technology, and innovation to drive the country under the idea of sufficiency economy, in remembrance of and to pay respect to the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

There were several activities in the event, including seminars, exhibitions, NSTDA open house, and S&T job fair. This year, BIOTEC participated the NAC2017 exhibitions with:

       •Food Innovation: It showed a big picture of NSTDA food research in many aspects, such as functional ingredients, food safety, as well as food industrial standards and compliance.

       •The New Era of Animal Health Research and Development: This seminar showed the work and innovation on the designing of vaccine from the macro-database of virus in Thailand, and the finding of pneumonia virus of pig using portable device.

       •Technologies to examine seeds for export: BIOTEC developed the molecular marker to examine the purity of rice seeds and other economic plants, and the techniques to diagnose plant diseases to be used in seed production technology.

       •The success of molecular rice breeding program in Mekong region: This program is to build up capacity in marker-assisted selection technology for rice breeder in Thailand, Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia in order to improve tolerance to unfavorable environmental conditions and resistance to pests and diseases.

       •Dengue research: The work featured the fair with the progress of dengue vaccine development, vaccine development using synthetic biology and Dengue-Serotyping NS1 ELISA Platform or DEN-STEP, a test kit for detecting NS1 protein during the early diagnosis of dengue fever.
