An annual National Dairy Fair is held from 30 January to 5 February 2018 at Muak Lek District, Saraburi Province to give recognition to the dairy farming industry. The opening ceremony was graciously presided over by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn on 30 January.
BIOTEC participated in the exhibition of the fair to promote the research work and technologies that have been developed for this important industry. The highlight of our work is the hormone-based technology for ovulation synchronization for ovulation synchronization and artificial insemination. The protocol employs hormone to induce ovulation to get a cow ready for an artificial insemination. By synchronizing pregnancies in the herd, the overall farm operation is much more efficient and profitable. The technology is also able to improve pregnancy in cows with reproductive system difficulties. BIOTEC has provided training, services and consultancies on this technology to more than 1,000 dairy farmers, and service over 7,000 cows. This result in an increase in milk production from 12.83 kg/cow/day to 16.72 kg/cow/day, improving profit from milk sales by 42%. The impact to the economy was estimated to 662.13 million baht in 2017.
Any dairy farm interested in the service, please contact BIOTEC or the Department of Animal and Aquatic Science, Faculty of Agriculture, Chiang Mai University.
