H.E. Dr. Suvit Maesincee, Minister of Science and Technology, and the winner of Super 10 visited BIOTEC

May 22, 2018– a group of delegations led by H.E. Dr. Suvit Maesincee, Minister of Science and Technology visited to the laboratories of NSTDA. The delegations includes a 7-year-old Jirat “Copter” Sumitmoh, the winner of a popular “Super 10” TV program and teachers from Bangkok Christian College School. The group was welcomed by Dr. Narong Sirilertworakul, President of NSTDA, NSTDA/ BIOTEC executives and researchers.

The delegations visited 3 BIOTEC labs which includes:- Thailand Bioresource Research Center (TBRC), a non-profit center which preserves biological resources such as bacteria and fungi. TBRC also focuses on the utilization of bioresource for food and medicine production.- Genomic Research Lab which covers population genetics, evolutionary and functional genomics.- Microarray Laboratory which develops the novel methods to detect diseases of plants, animals and various pathogens.

 This visit was part of the project aiming to trigger Thai children’s interest in STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics Education: STEM Education) and inspire “the scientists” in children. The project also aims to provide young children opportunities to exercise their scientific thinking and apply what they learn to real-life experiences in response to Thailand 4.0 development policy.
