Dr. Isaka’s remarkable contributions in the field of Chemical research on Thai mushroom resources for medicinal utilization have garnered him this prestigious recognition. His work revolves around harnessing the biodiversity of mushrooms, including both edible and medicinal varieties, found in Thailand for their potential biological activities that could be utilized for medical applications or supplements. The research entails screening of potential strains to assess their anti-pathogenic properties against human infectious diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis, and bacterial pathogens. Chemical modifications of potent antimalarial mushroom metabolites that were discovered by his research group are also carried out to improve biological potency, physical property and bioavailability. Additionally, the initiative encompasses the exploration of local food mushrooms from Isan exhibiting properties that could aid in reducing blood sugar levels, positioning them as viable candidates for health food applications.
On 11 August 2023, the award ceremony, presided over by HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, was held to honor the award recipients.
