433 participants from 17 countries participated in the ASEAN-ASSET during 14-15 November 2023 at Queen’s Sirikit National Convention Center, Bangkok, Thailand. The 2-day event covers a wide range of events, including plenary and keynote talks, poster presentations, networking sessions, and a product development competition. The forum explores the challenges and opportunities across the fields of alternative proteins, shared knowledge and insights across science, and industry, strengthened connections, and made new ones. Challenges such as scaling of alternative proteins, ensuring safety of the novel protein supplies, the use of natural alternatives to undesirable ingredients and regulations will discussed to foster the development of global solutions.
Historically, the International Conference ASSET, focusing on Food Integrity and organized by the Institute for Global Food Security (IGFS) at Queen’s University Belfast, exclusively took place in Europe. However, following the establishment of the International Joint Research Center on Food Security (IJC-FOODSEC) at BIOTEC, NSTDA, by Queen’s University Belfast, Thammasat University, and the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) in 2022, the ASEAN-ASSET is being organized in Asia for the first time this year.
