Aquaculture Service Development
Research Team
Aquaculture Service Development Research Team Story In 1999, Shrimp Biotechnology Business Unit (SBBU) was established by Thailand National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC) National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) then reorganized to Aquaculture Product Development and Services Laboratory (AAPS) in 2015 and Aquaculture Service Development Research Team (AQST) in 2019. Our team mission is to conduct research relating to various aspects of aquaculture and support the industry with contract research, PCR disease diagnostic service, and Ezee Gene®. test-kits.
AQST has 640 sq.m of office, molecular laboratory, and state of the art aquaculture laboratory (rearing tanks, disease challenge room, and feed preparation room)- all dedicated to providing products and services to the research community, shrimp industry, both domestic and international.
1.Contract Research
AQST provides expertise and facilities to help private sector clients to obtain data that be used in their research and development or marketing departments. Our state of the art aquaculture lab has been designed with high flexibility for various protocols and sufficient replicates for most feeding trials. The equipment and expertise available at AQST allow for various types of additional experiments and analyses to aid in your research along with the feeding trial.
2. Disease Diagnostic Service
With its 100 sq.m laboratory, a specially designed PCR suite, and many years of experience in shrimp diseases, AQST is a key specialist in disease diagnostics and provides dependable shrimp disease diagnostic service to its clients. With the OIE standard for PCR and LAMP analysis, our services are provided with strict protocol in accordance with ISO9001:2015 to ensure no contamination between samples and reliable processes.
Aquaculture research and development team (AQST) provides consulting and research and development, in accordance with the Biosafety & Biosecurity Guidelines and Ethical Principles and Guidelines for the Use of Animal under THAIACUC, to conduct laboratory tests under the Biosafety Level 2 (BSL2). AQST also provides the analysis and testing services for both microbial and chemical products for water quality application and product registration with the Department of Fisheries, as well as research and development to increase the product efficiency.
For disinfection or water conditioning products which containing important substances such as microorganisms those are made to prevent, eliminate, destroy or control microorganism, parasite, plant or other aquatic animal in aquaculture pond as hazardous substances of type 2 under the Hazardous Substances Act B.E. 2535 (1992). The registration contacts Hazardous Substances and Fishery Production Inputs Control Group, Fish Quarantime and Fishing Vessels Inspection Division. https://www4.fisheries.go.th/fishinspector
For feed-related products, according to the Animal Feed Quality Control Act B.E. 2558 (2015), as follows: Premixes of probiotics for aquatic animals include sea shrimp, freshwater shrimp, catfish, herbivorous freshwater fish, carnivorous freshwater fish, carnivorous sea fish, frog and crab. The registration contacts Aquatic Animal Feed Standard Regulation Group, Aquatic Animal Feed Research and Development Division. https://www4.fisheries.go.th/afr
Stages of work
Testing Services
Analysis Services
– Knowledge about bacterial diversity in the gastrointestinal tract of shrimp to utilize the benefits of managing microbiome in shrimp health in the future; by examining the effects of various factors such as rearing environment, salinity or health status on bacterial diversity associated with shrimp
– Study the effects of different rearing strategy such as recirculating aquaculture and biofloc systems to manage and control bacterial diversity, improve nitrification, and minimize the growth of opportunistic pathogens in the rearing system.
– Shrimp pathogen detection kit using nested PCR, realtime PCR, and LAMP under the trademark Ezee Gene®
