At the 44th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva, the ARDA AflaSensor Plus was awarded the gold medal and the special prize from the Korea Invention Promotion Association (KIPA), while the Fruit Blotch Easy kits won the silver medal and the special prize from the Taiwan Invention Association.
ARDA AflaSensor Plus is a low-cost and portable aflatoxin detector. It utilizes electrochemical detection method with innovative graphene-based sensing strip prepared by printing technology. It can be used for screening test to detect aflatoxin contamination in agricultural products, agriculture-derived products, human and animal food with good resolution, high accuracy and rapid detection time. In addition, it is compact, portable, low-cost and flexible to use with diverse chemicals including LAMP, enzyme and antibody for detections of aflatoxin species. This technology was developed by researchers from NECTEC namely Dr. Adisorn Tuantranont, Mr. Wattanasit Pimpao, Mr. Assawapong Sappat, Ms. Chanpen Karuwan and Ms. Patiya Pasakon, in collaboration with Mrs. Wansika Kiatpathomchai and Ms. Jantana Kampeera from BIOTEC.
Fruit Blotch Easy kits or FBeasy kits are accurate, sensitive, rapid and superior ELISA and strip test kits for detection of Acidovorax citrulli. A. citrulli is a quarantine pest for seed export and causes devastating fruit blotch disease in cucurbit plants. FBeasy kits are applicable for routine field inspection and for quality control of cucurbit seed. This invention was a result of the collaboration between BIOTEC researchers, namely Dr. Orawan Himananto, Dr. Oraprapai Gajanandana, Ms. Mallika Kumpoosiri and Dr. Plearnpis Luxananil in collaboration with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Petcharat Thummabenjapone from Khon Kaen University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wichai Kositratana and Asst. Prof. Dr. Ratchanee Hongprayoon from Kasetsart University, and Ms. Surapee Kiratiya from Biotechnology Research and Development Office.
The 44th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva was held from the 13-17 April 2016, under the patronage of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) of the Swiss government and the State and City of Geneva. There were 695 exhibitors from 40 countries, with more than 1,000 new inventions on display.
