The Dairy Farming Promotion Organization of Thailand (D.P.O.) organized the 2017 National Dairy Fair during January 30 – February 5, 2017 at Muak Lek District, Saraburi. The theme of this year is to send condolences and to remembrance of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who was keen to promote dairy farming to replace swidden agricultural practice among Thai farmers. On this occasion, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn graciously presided over the opening ceremony.
This year, BIOTEC participated the fair by presenting two research work:
- Starter culture for silage production or Silage Pro: With this starter technology, the fermentation takes only 7-14 days, and silage can be preserved longer. Research has indicated that cows fed on silage produced from starter culture are healthier as well. This technology was transferred to the Micro Innovate Co. Ltd.
- Utilization of modern genome technology to expedite the breeding program: This new technology has been utilized in various aspects such as to improve artificial insemination service, to help identify potential breeders within 1 year, as opposed 2-3 years under conventional practice and to make an improvement on breeding data management in order to shorten the processing time of breeding. This research work was co-sponsored by NSTDA, Kasetsart University and the Dairy Farming Promotion Organization.
