On 12 September 2023, National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC), National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) by Dr. Wonnop Visessanguan, Executive Director, Dr. Chili-Cherng Liao , Director-General of Food Industry Research and Development Institute (FIRDI) and Taiwan Association for Lactic acid Bacteria (TALAB) by Dr. Chin-Chu Chen, President signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Taiwan -Thailand Probiotic Industry Collaboration. The signing ceremony was held as part of the 2023 Thailand-Taiwan Industrial Collaboration Summit (TTICoS 2023) at the Sukosol Hotel, Bangkok. TTICoS was co-organized by the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) and Chinese National Federation of Industries (CNFI) to explore and enhance business opportunities for industrial collaboration between Taiwan and Thailand in key sectors such as textile, food and Biotechnology, smart city and automation, with a focus on global sustainability and achieving a net-zero future.
In addition, on 13 September 2023 Taiwanese delegates led by Dr. Bing-Huei Yang, Depuy Director-General of Food Industry Research and Development Institute (FIRDI) and Dr. Chin-Chu Chen, President of Taiwan Association for Lactic acid Bacteria (TALAB) and representatives from food and biotechnology industries visited BIOTEC.
On this occasion, the delegates received a briefing on BIOTEC’s research endeavors in the field of probiotics, alongside an overview of Thailand’s regulatory framework pertaining to probiotics. The meeting also encompassed discussions regarding potential collaborative efforts. The delegates also visited research facilities such as Plant Microbe Interaction Research facility, Food and Feed Innovation Center, Thailand Bio Resource Center, BIOTEC Bioprocess Facility. The delegates were provided information by Dr. Jennifer Luangsa-ard, Team Leader of Plant Microbe Interaction Research Team, Ms. Suwanee Chunhametha, Technical specialist, Microbial Systems and Computational Biology Research Team, Thailand Bioresource Research Center, Dr. Atikorn Panya, Team Leader of Food Biotechnology Research Team, Functional Ingredients and Food Innovation Research Group as well as Dr. Kobkul Laoteng, Director of Functional Ingredients and Food Innovation Research Group and Dr. Chanikul Chutrakul, Researcher, Industrial Bioprocess Technology Research Team.
