BIOTEC participated in BIOFIN Day during April 22 – 24, 2017 at Life Style Hall, Siam Paragon under the theme “From Conservation to Innovation: Sustainable Biodiversity Financing and Management”. BIOFIN Day was organized for the purpose of establishing the collaboration among public and private sectors as well as the interested parties to create financial inventions to thoroughly manage biodiversity in Thailand.
At the event, Dr. Lily Eurwilaichitr, the Deputy Executive Director of BIOTEC, joined a panel discussion on “Moving forward together with BIOFIN Partners”. Apart from the panel discussion and the keynote address sessions, there were research highlights from various organizations. BIOTEC exhibition displayed research work related to biodiversity, microbial management and utilization.
The Biodiversity Finance Initiative or BIOFIN is launched under the management of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The overall aims of the BIOFIN are to develop a methodology for filling the biodiversity finance gap at national level, to improve cost-effectiveness through biodiversity into national development and sectorial planning, and to develop and implement national resource mobilizing strategies. These methodologies are now being piloted in 30 countries globally.
