Dr. Pornkamol Unrean, Researcher, Enzyme Technology Lab, Microbial Biotechnology and Biochemicals Research Unit received the Young BMB Award 2018 in the field of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the Science Society of Thailand Under the Patronage of His Majesty the King from her work entitled “Development of Biorefinery Technology to Mitigate Effects of Climate Change and to Promote Bio-based Economy and Sustainability”.
The project focuses on the development of biofuel and biochemical technologies in response to climate change which contribute to the growth of the country’s bioeconomy based on sustainable use of natural resources. The project seeks to develop biofuel production process from lignocellulosic biomass with potential economic value. Based on a multidisciplinary approach, Dr. Unrean employs computational and experimental techniques of metabolic and bioprocess engineering for rational strain design and optimized bioprocess development. The knowledge and technology gained contribute towards making the lignocellulosic biorefinery commercially viable.
