Orawan graduated with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in agriculture science from Kasetsart University. Then, she received the Ph.D. in Plant Pathology from University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA. After graduation, she has worked as a researcher at National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC), National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) since 1997. The main research is on diversity of plant viruses in many economic crops in Thailand and development of immunological and molecular-based techniques for detection of plant viruses. In addition, she has collaborated with Dr.Thaworn Kowittayakorn in breeding of cherry tomato – Snack slim 502 for resistance of tomato yellow leaf curl disease. Marker-assisted selection was used in conjunction with conventional breeding for tomato breeding program. Tomato lines resistant to disease was awarded the Honorable Mention Invention Award 2017 (Agriculture and Biology Branch) from the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT). Currently, she extends the research to characterization of bacteriophage and application of bacteriophage for control of bacterial wilt disease of tomato.
