Delegation of U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) visited National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC)

On 5 July 2024 Ms. Jennifer Lappin, Director of New Technologies and Production Methods Division, U.S. Department of Agriculture and a representative of US Embassy Bangkok visited National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC), National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA). They were greeted by Asst. Prof. Dr. Chaowaree Adthalungrong, Executive Director of BIOTEC, Dr. Sithichoke Tangphatsornruang, Acting Deputy Executive Director (R&D) of BIOTEC and Dr. Nitsara Karoonuthaisiri, Acting Deputy Executive Director of BIOTEC (R&D Support). The delegates discussed collaboration and the latest developments in gene editing in plants.

As part of the collaboration with the USDA, BIOTEC is a project member of the USDA-funded Thailand Regional Agriculture Innovation Network (RAIN), which has been implemented by Winrock International since 2023. Recently, BIOTEC’s Dr. Parichart Burns and Dr. Yeetoh Dabbhadatta have been awarded the prestigious Borlaug Fellowship by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
