BIOTEC Seeks Further Collaboration with Mekong Institute (MI)

On 16 December 2022, Mr. Suriyan Vichitlekarn, Executive Director of Mekong Institute (MI), and Mr. Robby Rosandi, Project Manager of MI, visited BIOTEC to discuss our existing collaboration on the development of cassava value chain in the Mekong Region. Potential collaboration in modern agriculture, diagnostic technologies for agriculture and food were explored. BIOTEC also presented our research on breeding technology platforms for Thailand’s economically important crops and food and feed innovative research platform and showcased our facilities, including monoclonal antibody production (diagnostic applications for agriculture), Plant Factory (precision vertical farming), and Food and Feed Innovation Center.

In 2020, BIOTEC’s project entitled “Capacity Building on Circular Economy, Resource and Energy Efficiency for Productivity and Sustainability of Cassava Chain to High Value Products: Cassava Root, Native Starch, and Biogas in Mekong Countries (abbreviation: CCC)” was successfully funded by the Mekong-Republic of Korea Cooperation Fund (MKCF) for a total amount of THB 12,960,105 (USD 394,005) for the period of 1 July 2022 – 31 December 2022. MKCF is managed by the Mekong Institute. MI has lent their skills, guidance and knowledge to the CCC project team throughout the course of the project.
