Israeli technologies for agriculture in dryland introduced to Thai research community

Israel is recognized as a world leader in agricultural technology, especially in farming in arid condition, and also has high productivity, despite the scarcity of water and fertile land. The country stands among the highest in productivity per unit for many produces.  To unlock the secret, BIOTEC and NSTDA invited experts from Israel to share the experience and introduce some of the key technologies to Thai people.

A public seminar on “Technologies for Agricultural Industry in Dryland: Case Study from Israel” was held on 29 January 2015. The seminar aimed to enable Thai participants to explore new agricultural technologies for dry and drought conditions directly from Israeli experts, as well as to provide an opportunity for Thai and Israeli scientists to exchange their experiences in agricultural practices and researches.

Subsequently, a workshop on “Drip Fertigation: Melon Model” held on 1-5 February 2016 at Agricultural Technology Research Institute, Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna Lampang (RMUTL), Lampang. The participants experienced real practices through the given exercises in drip irrigation system, sensors assembly, fertigation calculation, measurement and operation both in the class and field

Both events were well received, with more than 100 attendants to the public seminar and 20 participants to the workshop.  The activities were co-organized by the Agricultural Research Organization of Israel and the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev.
