On May 26, 2026, the National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC) welcomed a delegation from the Embassy of Japan and Pt.Bio Inc. The purpose of the visit was to discuss potential research collaborations with BIOTEC. The delegation was led by Mr. Toru Kajiwara, Minister and Chief of the Economic Division, the Embassy of Japan.
The program begins with the presentation of Egg For All: Allergy-Reduced Egg by Ms. Yumiko Kusakabe, Chief Strategy Officer, Pt.Bio Inc. Her talk highlighted the solutions to reduce allergy agents in eggs through the genome editing technology, along with six other projects that meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This was followed by an overview presentation of BIOTEC’s research activities and discussions on potential areas for future collaboration. The session was led by Dr. Wirulda Pootakham, Acting Deputy Executive Director of BIOTEC for R&D Support. The delegation was also introduced to BIOTEC’s research in food technology and the Service Platform for Food & Functional Ingredients (FoodSERP) by Dr. Rinrada Suntivich, a researcher from the Functional Ingredients and Food Innovation Research Group
The final program was a tour of BIOTEC facilities and labs, led by Dr. Monchaya Rattanaprasert from the Food & Feed Innovation Center (FFIC). The visit and discussions served as a platform for knowledge exchange, particularly on BIOTEC’s food research and NSTDA’s food innovation services.
